About Us

St Mary’s Pre-School was registered in 1980, has charity status and is run by a parent committee. It is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation and our charity number is 1171309. St Mary’s operates from a single storey building in the grounds of St Mary’s Church in South Holmwood, near Dorking, Surrey. The provision is shared with the local community.

Our Pre-School offers education and care for children below school age and over the age of two years. A child may start as soon as they are two years old.

Sessions

The Pre-School is open each weekday in term time. Morning sessions run from 9.15 until 12.15 five days a week and afternoon sessions from 12.45 until 15.45 five days a week. An optional lunch service operates from 12.15 until 12.45 every day whereby children bring a pack lunch and eat together in a supervised environment. This lunch service provides additional flexibility for parents/carers in terms of pick-up and drop-off times.

Setting

The large room is divided into various learning areas including table top activities, floor based activities, small areas to work either individually, 1:1, or in small groups, and we also offer cosy quiet areas. This layout encourages free flowing opportunity for learning.

A free flow enclosed area is used for outside play the whole year unless conditions make this unsafe, for example severe weather. We also make full use of the local environment eg village walks, church ground visits, playing on the National Trust local field which is accessible via a pathway 50 metres from the building and exploring the nearby woods. The Pre-School serves the local area, nearby villages and extended villages/Dorking town.
